This
CD is a tribute to Deep Purple. What can I say? I was unhappy
with this one. I love Deep Purple--Machine Head was one of
the first rock records that I ever bought. Ritchie Blackmore
was a big influence on my playing. When I was a teenager,
my friends used to call me Vinnie "Black" Moore!
And so, I was happy to be asked to play on Woman From Tokyo.
I was sent an ADAT tape and recorded my parts at home in my
studio. I was really disappointed when I first heard the CD
because the song was shortened and a lot of the solos that
I recorded were edited out. The stuff that I thought was my
best work was gone.
The EQ put on my guitar was crappy--too trebly. I did this
echo effect thing using two delays in the bridge section (the
"so far away from the..." part) which took up three
tracks. I left specific instructions on how the three tracks
were supposed to be panned. This was totally ignored when
they mixed, and so the effect was ruined. Inexcusable. Maybe
I should stop here. I don't have anything good to say. If
I can find the unedited version of this song, maybe I will
put an MP3 of it up on this site. I will look for the tape.
Stay posted.
